Description: A graduate assistantship (M.S. or Ph.D. level) is available at the Department of Entomology at Louisiana State University with Drs. Qian “Karen” Sun and Kate Ihle (USDA). The student will work on a collaborative research project with the USDA ARS Honey Bee Lab to study honey bee health from a genetics and breeding perspective, with a likely focus on queen health. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build their own study questions based on the broad range of expertise at LSU and the USDA.
The Department of Entomology at LSU offers excellent graduate training through courses, research and extension in diverse areas. The Bee Lab provides facilities and expertise to conduct research on honey bee breeding, genetics, and physiology. Students also have opportunities to utilize resources across LSU campus and interact with other collaborating departments and organizations.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in biology, entomology, or related field.
Start Date and Compensations: The student is expected to start in Summer or Fall 2022. The position is fully funded with a competitive stipend, tuition waiver, and benefits.
