Columbia Lab Technician

This lab technician position reports to Profs. Duncan Menge and Kevin Griffin, who are the PIs on the NSF grant funding this position. The incumbent will carry out much of the data collection for the grant, which involves growing plants in a growth chamber, operating and maintaining instruments to take measurements, and processing samples, along with general laboratory organization and maintenance.

In general, the work focuses on biogeochemistry and ecosystem ecology, focusing on nitrogen and carbon cycling in terrestrial ecosystems. In particular, the grant’s primary focus is to study temperature sensitivities of symbiotic nitrogen fixation and the carbon cost thereof. The work location will be Columbia Morningside Campus and Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

The funding for this position runs for 2 years and 2 months. The initial appointment of one year could be extended to the end of the funding contingent upon satisfactory performance.
