Biology Opportunities

DANTA is offering 2019 field courses in tropical biology. The courses are intended for undergraduates who have a keen interest in tropical ecosystems and conservation, but have little or no experience of working in a tropical environment.

Volunteer for five days this summer at Camp Odayin, a camp for young people with heart disease. Apply to be a camp counselor for 2019 summer residential camps in Crosslake, MN and Elkhorn, WI. Exceptional volunteers will support and guide young campers to create the best week of the year.

The Summer Lab Science Program at Mayo Clinic’s campus in Rochester, Minnesota, offers students the opportunity to gain experience in the clinical laboratory environment by working alongside Mayo Clinic laboratory employees. Apply by February 28th on the Tunnel.

Due to the Federal Government Shutdown, we have extended the REU application deadline to February 15th! The MDI Biological Laboratory’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program aims to engage students in scientific explorations in the Laboratory’s focus area, comparative regenerative biology, while providing them with opportunities to build skills important to successful careers in the biological sciences. For 10 weeks, each REU student will conduct independent research under the mentorship of a research scientist while having access to state-of-the-art research laboratories and core facilities and support staff. 16 PAID internships are being offered through CSU COAST in a broad range of fields including fisheries management, species conservation and protection, ocean data analysis and synthesis, and marine engineering. Undergraduate (second year) and graduate students are encouraged to apply. Deadline: March 4, 2019, 5 pm Pacific time.

The Dean of Medical Education’s Academy for Research, Clinical, and Health Equity Scholarship (ARCHES) is a six-week program for ten undergraduate students who are rising juniors and seniors interested in pursuing medical studies.

Deadline: Monday, February 4, 2019.

Biology professors Dan Hernández and Mark McKone are accepting applications for summer research assistants for summer 2019. The research will focus on various projects in the Carleton Arboretum on the ecology of prairie restoration, soil carbon and nutrient cycling, and the impacts of mammal herbivory on prairie communities.
