The University of Minnesota is looking for exceptional undergraduate students to complete an 11-week intensive research experience designed to provide immersive research training for students interested in a career in academic research/medicine. Each student will conduct a small, independent research project focused on a scientific question using computational biology. Over the course of the summer, students will attend weekly presentations and meetings. Students will be expected to discuss their research results informally in laboratory and group meetings. A student’s work will be directly supervised by a faculty member or a designated post-doctoral associate working in the laboratory. At the end of the summer, students will present their research to faculty from the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the Division of Pediatric Epidemiology and Clinical Research, the Division of Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy, and other selected guests. Students will work up to 40 hours per week; schedules and hours will be arranged with the assigned faculty mentor (or delegate). This is not a clinical shadowing opportunity.

Undergraduate Internship in Barley Improvement with Molson Coors in Burley, Idaho (application deadline 2/21/25)
14 February 2025Molson Coors in Burley, Idaho are seeking a highly motivated student to join their Barley Improvement Program for a field work-based internship. This internship offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to gain direct, hands-on experience in plant improvement and production. The intern will play a key role in supporting their barley improvement efforts, contributing to cultivar evaluation and disease resistance screening. This experience will provide valuable exposure to field design, plant breeding techniques, agricultural research and data analysis. This internship would be an excellent opportunity for students interested in agronomy, plant science, biology, agriculture and plant pathology. They are looking for a student who is enthusiastic, detail-oriented, hard-working, has a strong work ethic and works well in a team. UPRIME is a 10-week summer program hosted by the Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology at the University of Minnesota and sponsored by an American Heart Association award. Each awardee is given the opportunity to conduct physiology research in their area of interest with a research faculty member in the Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology. Each awardee is also given a stipend of up to $6000.00.

29 January 2025Under STEMworks™ Internship Program, students (grades 9 thru college) have a unique opportunity to explore technical and professional development, and gain confidence in their ability to be a STEM professional. Much effort is placed on connecting the dots between STEMworks™ curriculum, software tools available in the classroom, and real world applications. Applications are open to participating STEMworks high school students (grades 9-12), and STEMworks alumni currently in college. High school students and college students who are not part of our STEMworks program may still apply, but are not guaranteed placement with an internship. All applicants must be a Hawaii-resident or attending a Hawaii-based school.

The Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology (IBP) at the University of Minnesota is seeking undergraduate students to participate in a biomedical laboratory-based research and education program. This program is directed at students who are or will be juniors (third year students) or seniors (fourth year students) at their home institutions. We are especially interested in students who are underrepresented in biomedical research and/or medicine. Eligible students will be given the opportunity to participate in cutting edge research and have opportunities for academic mentoring. Each student will earn a stipend of $6000 for their 10-week research experience. Travel funds to a scientific conference are available.

The Training and Experimentation in Computational Biology (TECBio): “Simulation and Visualization of Biological Systems at Multiple Scales” REU program is a 10-week summer program that will provide a challenging and fulfilling graduate-level research experience to undergraduate students. A wide variety of theoretical and experimental research projects are available to our participating students. Students will also receive classroom training in topics pertinent to the emerging field of computational biology, such as computational structural biology, cell and systems modeling, computational genomics, and bioimage informatics. Additionally, TECBio students will participate in a weekly journal club, attend research and career seminars organized specifically for the program, take part in an ethics forum that will instruct them in the responsible conduct of research, present their work at a Pittsburgh-wide annual research symposium, and experience the various social and cultural activities available in Pittsburgh – America’s most livable city.

24 January 2025Are you a first or second year student interested in science, math, statistics, and/or computer science? Are you looking for an opportunity to see what STEM research is really like? If so, consider applying to Carleton’s Summer Science Fellowship! The goal of the Summer Science Fellowship is to broaden participation of historically underrepresented groups (based on gender, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, or disability) in the sciences and math. Carleton Summer Science Fellows have the opportunity to work in a research lab either at Carleton or at another institution for two summers. Summer Science Fellows participate in group meetings and activities both before and after the summer research experience and are expected to enroll in the 1 credit Science Fellows Research Colloquium both in the spring before and the fall following their research experience.

Yale-Mentored Research Opportunity – Global Health Experiential Fellowship Outside link
24 January 2025Global Health Experiential Fellowship is a 5-week global health research opportunity with the opportunity to conduct global health research in collaboration with Ugandan master’s and bachelor’s students under Yale School of Medicine mentors Dr. Robert Rosenheck and Dr. Yang Jae Lee. This rigorous program has gained recognition as a gold-standard in global health education. Its impact is highlighted in a forthcoming paper under review in the Annals of Global Health, co-authored by global health leaders such as Dr. Brandon Kohrt, Dr. Robert Rohrbaugh, and Dr. Peter Waiswa. Over the past two years of the fellowship, over 80% of participating fellows have or will become co-authors of a peer-reviewed scientific article; some examples can be found here, here, and here. Fellows will develop transferable skills useful in all fields, but particularly in medicine, research, and public health. The Ecological and Water Resources Division’s River Ecology Unit is heavily involved in long-term monitoring of habitat conditions and biodiversity, development of fish habitat preference curves (PDF), and restoration of rivers. Each summer, the River Ecology Unit’s – Stream Fish Habitat interns gain valuable on-the-job work experience in fisheries and river research. Generally, three to four interns are hired per summer field season.
