The Peifer Lab’s NIH-funded lab explores the cell biology of embryonic development, with a focus on how cells change shape and move without disrupting tissue integrity. They use a multidisciplinary approach, combining powerful genetic tools and state-of-the art microscopy, and taking advantage of the fruit fly Drosophila and cultured mammalian cells as models. They also add tools in biochemistry and structural biology through our collaboration with Kevin Slep–one position may be as part of this collaboration. In addition, collaborative work with other labs at UNC and beyond has allowed students to interact with colleague working in modeling, computer vision and biophysics. This year students have two options: apply directly to the lab or apply through UNC’s new postbac program: PRISM (see https://www.med.unc.edu/pbrp/).
