Director: Professor Chris Calderone
Biochemistry seeks to understand biological phenomena at a molecular level. It rests at the interface of Biology and Chemistry, while also holding a strong position within the two traditional disciplines. The Biochemistry program at Carleton benefits from the contributions of faculty in both the Biology and Chemistry departments.
Can I major in it? No. A minor is offered.
Topics explored: Biomolecular structure and function, metabolism, enzymatic regulation and mechanisms.
How to get started: Students interested in the Biochemistry concentration are advised to take BIOL 125: Genes, Evolution, and Development, BIOL 126: Energy Flow in Biological Systems, and/or CHEM 123: Principles of Chemistry during their first year.
