Dream of the Red Chamber and the Female Readers' Responsive Poetry in the Nineteenth Century - Ann Waltner, Professor of History, University of Minnesota
The Dr. Walter H. Judd Lectureship in Asian Studies fall talk is presented by Ann Waltner, Professor of History, University of Minnesota, titled "Dream of the Red Chamber and the Female Readers' Responsive Poetry in the Nineteenth Century."
The Dream of the Red Chamber (or The Story of the Stone) stands as one of China’s Four Great Classical Novels. Long before its official publication in 1791, it captured the imagination of readers—and sparked a rich tradition of literary commentary. Join us for a talk exploring this monumental work and the vibrant poetry written by young female readers who engaged with it throughout the 19th century.
This event is sponsored by The Dr. Walter H. Judd Lectureship in Asian Studies and organized by the Department of Asian Languages & Literatures.
