KRLX’s recently released fall schedule inspired a short interview with KRLX’s Station Manager, Zoë Levin, who is a senior psychology major dedicated to making Carleton’s prized radio station the best that it can be. KRLX is live 24/7 during the school year and can be streamed online by clicking this link.
Here is what Zoë had to say about KRLX:
What makes KRLX different from other college radio stations?
- KRLX is an entirely free-form radio station so the programming changes every term depending on what our DJs are interested in doing on air. KRLX is also entirely student run. We have no professional or paid employees working there, which I believe is not common for many college radio stations. This term we have around 200 student DJs which just shows how many people are a part of our station.
What kind of variety can we expect from KRLX?
- The variety of KRLX shows changes every term but there are usually a few talk shows and news shows. We have some students who do the same show every term and others who change it up. There are music shows of all different genres ranging from Blues to Heavy Metal to Hip Hop and everything in between. The variety comes from students’ ability to do whatever they want. Some shows are very structured and others are whatever the DJ is feeling that particular day, but that is the fun of listening to KRLX.
How does KRLX contribute to the student body?
- KRLX provides a space for Carleton students to essentially do whatever (within FCC guidelines) they want and broadcast to Northfield. There are talk shows, news shows, and music shows of all different genres. There are also so many ways to approach being involved with KRLX outside of being a DJ. We have Associate Music Directors who review the music we get sent from artists around the country. We have Record Librarians who help to maintain our large collection of vinyl and CDs housed in the Record Library right across from the KRLX Radio Booth.
