Theatre production of Paula Vogel’s ‘Indecent’ opens Oct. 20

19 October 2022

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel’s INDECENT plays this weekend at the Weitz Center. Opening Thursday October 20 at 7:30 p.m., the show continues through the weekend. The production is a featured event in the Arts and Democracy series taking place this Fall at Carleton.

INDECENT is directed by alum Lee Conrads ’12. The show recounts the controversy surrounding the 1923 Broadway production of the play GOD OF VENGEANCE by Sholem Asch, for which the producer and cast were arrested and convicted on the grounds of obscenity.

Paula Vogel won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998 for HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE, and ever since has been a leading voice in American theatre both on and off stage. A fascinating interview with her, conducted on the occasion of INDECENT’s Broadway opening can be found here.
