Julie Albers is a highly accomplished cellist who got her start on violin at the two years old, switching to cello when she was just four. Albers has been competing and winning musical awards since she was in high school, including the prestigious Grand Prize at the XIII International Competition for Young Musicians in Douai, France, and as a result toured France as soloist with Orchestre Symphonique de Douai. She made her first major orchestral debut in 1998 when she joined the Cleveland Orchestra. Since then, she has participated in orchestras and recitals in North America, Europe, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand. Throughout her career she has won multiple international awards and plenty of recognition within the music world. Albers is currently a member of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and will be visiting with fellow chamber member, Thomas Zehetmar.

Not only is Zehetmar a member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, he is also the principal conductor and artistic advisor of the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris in France. He is internationally recognized as a superb violinist, chamber musician, and conductor. From 2002 to 2014 he was the music director of the Royal Northern Sinfonia, which he now serves as conductor laureate. Zehetmar has recorded numerous violin solo performances and chamber performances with a variety of ensembles. Many of Zehetmair’s CDs have received prestigious awards, including the Diapason d’Or de l’Annee in 2009, inclusion on the honorary list of the German Record Critics Award 2009, Midem Classic Award 2010, and Gramophone Award 2010.

Together, Albers and Zehetmar will perform a special concert for the Carleton community on Sunday, May 17, and 2:00 PM in the Concert Hall. Admission is free to Carleton and St. Olaf students with a valid student ID. Admission for the general public is $10. For senior citizens and students who do not attend Carleton or St. Olaf, admission is $7.
