“Restored Mural for Orlando”: a Chapbook Responding to Tragedy

25 April 2019

Roy Guzman reads from “Restored Mural for Orlando”- a personal response to the tragedy at the Orlando Nightclub in Miami on June 12, 2016. They write in English, but their work is additionally translated into Spanish by Marco Antonio Huerto, and D. Allen interprets the work through their art. This poetry seeks to respond to and grieve for this massacre affecting queer people of color. The format and presentation of the work, in both English and Spanish and art, serve to draw attention to the particular tragedy, understood in the context of continued mass shootings. This work will be opened up to discussion in the conclusion of the event. In addition, both Roy Guzman and D. Allen will present some of their new poetry.
