Minnesota becomes (even more of) a hotbed of ceramic activity this month and next as 6,000 ceramic artists, educators and enthusiasts converge on Minneapolis for the annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA).
Carleton gets an early start on the festivities with the opening of a trilogy of ceramics focused shows: SIN: The Seven Deadlies in Clay; Around Us: What Ceramic Makers Collect in the Perlman Teaching Museum, and Ceramics from the Carleton Art Collection which will be featured in the Mar-G Commons of the Weitz Center (lower level of the Performance Hall lobby).
Prof. Kelly Connole worked extensively with museum staff, artists, alumni and collectors to assemble this celebration of clay. “At Carleton, we believe in the transformative power of a liberal arts education. With this in mind, we are celebrating a season of ceramics across our campus. With exhibitions in the Weitz Center for Creativity, Gould Library, and Boliou Hall, we are showcasing the intrinsic potential of clay in its many forms.”
The openings will be celebrated with a reception from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 8th in the Weitz Center Commons.
These exhibitions will be joined March 1 by an exhibition of work by Carleton alumni potters, and additional work to be displayed in Gould Library and Boliou Hall.
