A Fierce Naval Battle

Cinema and media studies professor Jay Beck collaborated with Perlman Teaching Museum curator Laurel Bradley to add a new dimension to Carleton’s art collection. Each student in Beck’s sound design course created a three-minute soundscape to accompany a piece of art from the spring exhibition, Sets, Series, Sounds—including the print shown above. Visitors to the gallery used iPods to listen to the soundscapes while they were viewing the corresponding artworks. Art and soundscapes are available at
