12 January 2024

The International Film Forum resumes its program of bringing films from around the globe to Carleton on Monday, January 15 with CONCERNING VIOLENCE, a 2014 documentary by Goran Olsson. Narrated by Lauryn Hill, this profound film essay depicts Africa’s struggle for liberation from colonial rule in the late ’60s and ’70s. From the director of ‘The Black Power Mixtape’ comes a bold and fresh visual narrative on Africa, based on newly discovered archive material accompanied by text from Frantz Fanon’s ‘The Wretched of the Earth’. Cynthia Marrero-Ramos of Carleton’s Philosophy Department will provide brief introductory remarks.

The series will continue with these films:

Monday, January 22 GUEROS by Alonso Ruizpalacios

Monday, February 12 THE BEASTS by Rodrigo Sorogoyen

Monday, February 19 PASSAGES by Ira Sachs

All International Film Forum screenings take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Weitz Center Cinema. All screenings are free and open to the public.
