French Film Series continues with Audrey Diwan’s THE HAPPENING

26 January 2023

Carleton’s International Film Forum this year features a series of French films, the screenings of which are made possible by a generous grant from the Albertine Cinemathique, a program of FACE Foundation and Villa Albertine, with support from the CNC / Centre National du Cinema, and SACEM / Fonds Culturel Franco-Americain. Following on our Fall screenings of Alice Diop’s NOUS, David Dufresne’s MONOPOLY OF VIOLENCE, and the classic LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD, this term’s feature is THE HAPPENING (L’événement) by Audrey Diwan. Diwan, a French film director of Lebanese origin, is a member of Collectif 50/50, a French NGO promoting equality between men and women in the film industry. In 2021, THE HAPPENING won the Golden Lion at the 78th Venice International Film Festival.

Screening at the Weitz Center Cinema on Monday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m. Free and open to all members of the community.
