Faculty Spring Flute Recital

16 May 2015

Throughout the past two decades, Carleton’s own Martha Jamsa has been a flute instructor at multiple institutions such as Macalester College, the University of Sioux Falls, and South Dakota University. In addition to being an educator, she has performed in numerous organizations including the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and the Dakota Wind Quintet. On Saturday, May 16, Martha will be joined by fellow faculty members Mark Krusemeyer and Janean Hall, as well as special guest artist Karen Madsen, who will be performing on recorder, harpsichord, and cello. A second honored guest will be Polish-American bassoonist Marta Troicki. Each performer will have a chance to showcase their instruments and talents in a variety of well-known orchestral pieces.  Jamsa, Krusemeyer, Hall, and Madsen will be performing the Trio Sonate BWV 1039 by J.S. Bach. Troicki will play Bachianas Brasileiras No. 6, Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. Other concert pieces include John Rutter’s Suite Antique and Lowell Liebermann’s Eight Pieces for Solo C-Flute, Alto Flute, Bass Flute and/or Piccolo, which is well-known as an extremely demanding and imaginative piece of work, which Martha will play on varied instruments of the flute family.

The concert will begin at 8:00PM on Saturday, May 16, in the Concert Hall.
