Entertainment Across the River
21 October 2014In a collaborative effort to expand audiences at Carleton College as well as St. Olaf, art-appreciators are encouraged to attend theater productions, concerts, and art exhibits provided by both of Northfield’s colleges. While waiting for Carleton performances to premiere, members of the Carleton community are welcome and encouraged to attend some of St. Olaf’s events. The following publication provides a few upcoming events featured at St. Olaf.

Northfield Summer Film Fest
24 June 2014The Cannon Valley Elder Collegium and Carleton College are again pleased to present the Northfield Film Festival. The first movie, Bonnie and Clyde, is on July 8. The others are The Graduate, July 15; 2001–A Space Odyssey, July 22; and Chinatown, July 29.
All evening screenings are free and open to the public.
If you’d like to learn more about the films, enroll in the CVEC’s class! Each movie will be followed the morning after by a seminar led by faculty experts, 9:30-11:30 AM, also at the Weitz Center. Registration for these seminars begins on June 15 by mail or at the Northfield Senior Center, and $25 covers all four movies. The first seminar will be led by Jay Beck, Assistant Professor of Cinema and Media Studies, Carleton.

In collaboration with the Northfield Historical Society, Carleton is pleased to host screenings of the first annual Jesse James Film Festival. All showings will be in the Weitz Center for Creativity Cinema and are free and open to the public (although donations are appreciated). For more information, please contact the Historical Society.

Telling: Minnesota, A theater performance created by veterans
17 February 2014Did you Miss it at the Guthrie? Well, the Minnesota Humanities Center is taking it on the road! First stop Carleton College! “Telling: Minnesota” is the 12th original production of The Telling Project. Like all of its predecessors, “Telling: Minnesota” has been created through an intensive process of interviews with veterans and their family members, scripting from these interviews, performance training, and rehearsal. Carleton’s Visuality Conference Concludes with Vibrant Multimedia Performance, “Sound and Vision”
25 September 2012“Visual Learning: Transforming the Liberal Arts,” concludes with a vibrant multimedia performance on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. in the Weitz Center for Creativity Theater. “Sound and Vision” is curated by Nikki Melville, Carleton associate professor of music (and acclaimed composer and pianist), and features a diverse group of student artists using dance, film, computer graphics, and studio art to reinterpret and broaden the sensory experience. This performance is free and open to the public.

In collaboration with the Cannon Valley Elder Collegium, Carleton College is pleased to announce the first annual Northfield Summer Film Festival, running for four consecutive Tuesday evenings beginning July 10 and running through July 31. The theme of the series is “awakenings” and featured films include “Groundhog Day,” “After Life,” “The Crying Game,” and “Local Hero.” Screenings will be presented each Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Weitz Center for Creativity Cinema and are free and open to the public.
