Music from Mali – KASSE MADY DIABATE
21 September 2015For almost half a Century Kassé Mady Diabaté has been recognized as one of West Africa’s finest singers. He is a descendant of the most distinguished griot family of the ancient Manding Empire, the Diabatés of Kéla; his name, alongside other griot legends Toumani Diabaté and Bassékou Kouyaté, is equivalent to musical royalty in Mali. Kassé Mady has played a part in the most innovative moments in Malian music over the past five decades, first in his own country and later with landmark international collaborations. More info…

Experimental Dance Board Spring Showcase

This year’s spring performances will be on Friday May 8th and Saturday May 9th in the large Weitz Center for Creativity dance studio (Weitz 165). Josh Davids ’15 presents: An Iliad
15 April 2015Before graduation, all students at Carleton are required to complete a Comprehensive Project, otherwise known as COMPS. As part of their COMPS projects, theater majors have the unique opportunity to direct and act in their own presentations of famous plays. An interview with Josh Davids ’15 details the hard work that senior theater majors put into their final projects. Josh will be performing An Iliad, a theatrical rendition of the Greek classic.

Debut of “Skylarks: The Jukebox Recital”

Carleton Orchestra debuts piece by Jeffrey Treviño
4 March 2015The Carleton Orchestra, directed by Professor Hector Valdivia, will be performing its winter program Friday, March 6, at 8:00-9:30pm in the Concert Hall. The program will feature Robert Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro Brillante, Op. 13 b, and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1. To add to its exciting repertoire, the orchestra will also debut How to Build Fences and Gates, a composition by esteemed visiting professor Jeffrey Treviño. …

German Liederabend
21 February 2015On Saturday, February 21, Carleton students currently enrolled in voice lessons will be presenting “German Liederabend”, which is an evening of German art song. This vocal recital will begin at 7:30pm in the Concert Hall. Each song will be performed in German and the concert features pieces from Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Richard Strauss, and Carl Bohm. The collection of pieces range from the Classical period to the Romantic period and into the twentieth century. …
