Professor of music, Lawrence Burnett, will be conducting the The Carleton Choir and Carleton Singers during this magnificent performance. In addition, the choral groups will be accompanied by a professional orchestra of Carleton faculty and regional instrumentalists who frequently perform in musical organizations in the Twin Cities and beyond. The Creation is considered to be Haydn’s ultimate masterpiece and was inspired by the Old Testament’s Book of Genesis and Book of Psalms, as well as John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost. Multiple soloists will be featured during this performance including voice instructors Patricia Kent, Benjamin Allen, and Rick Penning. Student soloists will be Caroline Bolster ’15 and Patrick Stephen ’15. Highlights of the piece include the popular choruses “The Heavens Are Telling” and “Awake the Harp.” This performance will also feature a selection of Haydn’s part songs, which were composed for solo voices and keyboard and intended be sung in homes and intimate venues. For this performance, the Carleton Singers will be accompanied by a 25-piece string quartet. The variety in performance styles ranging from grandiose to peaceful and intimate is sure to keep the entire audience entertained.
