Bach + Ballet

4 April 2019

Sixteen singers, a baroque orchestra, and no fewer than eighteen dancers will come together on Saturday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. for a thrilling presentation of J.S. Bach’s masterpiece ST. JOHN PASSION. Under the co-direction of Oratory’s Matthew Olson (Carleton’s own choir director) and MDT’s Artistic Director Lise Houlton, the production will be a multi-disciplinary feast of music and movement. The performing forces will take full advantage of Kracum’s marvelous acoustics and theatrical staging capabilities. MDT has successfully fused choral music and dance before, with a long-running production of CARMINA BURANA that the St. Paul Pioneer Press called “a breathtaking amalgam of music, movement, and imagery.” A pre-concert talk by Olson and Houlton will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the performance beginning at 7:00. The performance is free and open to the public; no reservations necessary.
