SUMMARY:Fall Term Theater Production: Passion Play by Sarah Ruhl
TRANSP:TRANSPARENT
LOCATION:Weitz Center Theater
DESCRIPTION:Hailed by <em>The New Yorker</em>’s John Lahr as “extraord
 inary\,” “bold\,” and “inventive\,” Sarah Ruhl’s <em>Passion P
lay</em> takes us behind the scenes of three very different communities at
tempting to stage the death and resurrection of Christ.\n\nThis intimate e
pic occurs at the timely intersection of politics and religion. Ruhl drama
tizes a community of players rehearsing their annual staging of the Easter
Passion in three different eras: 1575 Northern England\, just before Quee
 n Elizabeth outlaws the ritual\; 1934 Oberammergau\, Bavaria\, as Hitler i
s rising to power\; and Spearfish\, South Dakota\, from the time of Vietna
m through Reagan’s presidency. In each period\, the players grapple with
the transformative nature of art\, and politics are never far in the back
ground.\n\nView this event on the Carleton College website:\nhttps://www.c

TRANSP:TRANSPARENT
LOCATION:Weitz Center Theater
DESCRIPTION:Hailed by <em>The New Yorker</em>’s John Lahr as “extraord

tempting to stage the death and resurrection of Christ.\n\nThis intimate e
pic occurs at the timely intersection of politics and religion. Ruhl drama
tizes a community of players rehearsing their annual staging of the Easter
Passion in three different eras: 1575 Northern England\, just before Quee
 n Elizabeth outlaws the ritual\; 1934 Oberammergau\, Bavaria\, as Hitler i

DESCRIPTION:<em>This talk is part of the Edwin L. Weisl Jr. Lecture Series
sponsored by the Robert Lehman Foundation</em>\n\nArchitectural historian
and activist\, Patricia Morton will give a talk that focuses on writings
and buildings by Charles W. Moore\, a prominent Postmodern architect\, who
asserted that “you have to pay for the public life” in a famous 1965
essay. Looking at several of Moore’s projects from the 1960s and 1970s\,
the talk will investigate what Moore meant by “paying” for the public
realm\, his advocacy for Disneyland as a public space\, and the ways he u
nderstood “the public” in various contexts\, including a public housin

returns to some of the foundational myths of American culture — the fro

ich those myths have traditionally been told. <em>In the Distance</em> re
imagines the western from the perspective of a lost immigrant moving again
