Is Anyone There?

This talk proudly sponsored by the Christopher U. Light Lectureship in the Arts

Beth West and AJ Meadows will be talking to the Junior Studio Art Seminar class in conjunction with an exhibition of their work, the opening of which will take place on May 13 at 2pm in the Weitz Creative Space, Weitz 229.

"The Polyester Projects is an emerging artist collective that seeks to question the influence of our ancient and pre-historic predecessors on our modern behaviors. We strive to develop connections between our past and present, and how this routinely gives us more insight into how we haven't changed rather than the opposite."

Anthony J. Meadows is an American born artist. His current practice draws on, and aims to pair, the natural and the unnatural. He is interested in the proceeding relationships developed/formed/forced between the two and the idea that what exists outside eventually comes inside.

Elizabeth West is an emerging, interdisciplinary artist, living and working in Wisconsin. Her roots are in ceramics, in which she received her degree at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. During and after her time in school, West assisted and taught ceramics classes at the UWL Art Department, The Phipps in Hudson, WI, and in NC at a residency through The Bascom: A Center for Visual Art. Her time in North Carolina expanded her knowledge and understanding of clay and introduced her to the cultural and social impact that functional ceramics possess. This sparked her current exploration of functionality and how objects influence us in personal, historical and social contexts.
