The Weitz Black Box Theater is a flexible space with removable seating that can accommodate a proscenium, thrust, and other staging configurations. 

Stage Dimensions

  • 64 feet, wall-to-wall
  • 42 feet, wing-to-wing (wings are adjustable) 
  • 29 feet, normal depth of lit space

Seating

  • In proscenium configuration, seats up to 200
  • In thrust configuration, seats up to 140

Lighting

  • Height to grid pipes: 27’8″
  • Height to lowest point of steel in grid: 25’6″ 

Curtains

  • Cyc (Garriets Opera Creamy White) is 45’w x 20’h
  • Curtain legs are movable and removable

Backstage

The backstage of the Weitz Black Box Theater features: 

  • Green room with onstage monitor, single-stall restroom, refrigerator, and sink
  • Two dressing rooms with makeup mirrors, locker storage, costume racks, ironing board and iron, steamer, and a restroom in each
  • Shower
  • Washer and dryer
  • Scene shop

Location

  • The Weitz Theater is located near the main entrance of the Weitz Center for Creativity on Third St. E.
  • The Theater entrance is across from the Weitz Cafe, which is open M – F, 8am – 7pm during the academic term.

Accessibility 

The Weitz Theater is wheelchair accessible via the main double doors into the space, as well as via the upper-level House entrance. The upper-level House entrance is on the second level of the Weitz, and can be reached via the main elevator in the Weitz Commons. Wheelchair seating can be accommodated on the main floor of the House (alongside or in front of the first row of seats) and at the back row of the House.
