Raquel Santamaría Germani (She/Her/Hers)
Biology and Studio Art double major
Humans turn from what wounds the eye — we are drawn to beauty, not ruin. Yet in nature, beauty often clings to what is broken, making it impossible to ignore. My work is an intimate conversation between myself and the pieces I create, my hands keeping alive the corals I am desperately trying to save.
Through sculpting and painting coral worlds — vibrant yet fading — I honor both the beauty and fragility of life. Using temperature-sensitive pigments and realistic forms, I highlight the invisible pressures behind coral bleaching and the science working to preserve what is left. I do not aim to inspire fear, but hope — to spark wonder, and a deep desire to protect what remains before it slips away.
In life, rebirth follows ruin. And I believe everything — every reef, every fragment, every being — deserves a second chance.
