The Studio Art class of 2023, Art and Art History department, and Perlman Teaching Museum invite you to visit the Senior Art Show. This annual exhibition is held in the second half of spring term. It showcases new artwork by graduating seniors, developed through the comps process, the capstone project that all Studio Art majors undertake.

Join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, May 12 from 5:00-7:00 pm.

With the encouragement of their teachers, the 2023 senior class has experimented across an impressive array of artistic mediums including printmaking, woodwork, ceramics, textiles, collage, drawing, painting, sculpture and installation. Their artwork is both personal and rooted in research, exploring themes of gender, migration and identity, labor, religious iconography, family upbringing and domesticity, psychology, memory, self portraiture, poetry, and dance.

Often the concepts and ideas that students study when taking classes outside of the Art and Art History department come to influence the artistic work they produce within the department, reflecting the strength of the interdisciplinary model of education that Carleton College offers. The Senior Art Show of 2023 is simultaneously a celebration of each student’s hard work, a thank you for their dedication to their studies, and a farewell as they prepare to embark on life after Carleton.
