Geology and Studio Art Double Major
As a Geology and Studio Art double major, I create artwork that explores the relationship between human activities and nature. Outside of satisfying, delightful hours spent working with 3D sculptures, I’m interested in studying the impact of human activities on the environment such as microplastic contamination, climate change, and waste pollution. I hope to express both of my interests together as a core framework of this installation to help me grow as an environmental artist.
Over the course of the exhibition installation period, the living flowers on the ground will slowly dry and wither just like the inverted tree with lifeless brown leaves. In contrast, the colorful flowers and landscapes made by the recycling materials will stay the same. The interplay between natural and manufactured materials in this sculpture implies a relationship between humans and nature. Our natural environment is changing and dying as human life continues. Humans and nature are not separated entities but are mutually dependent, and we should do better to take care of our natural ecosystem.
