Mathematics and Studio Art Double Major
My choice of subject is based on my interest in the careful attention that other humans demand from me, as they are the only mirrors for my own experiences and complexity. Drawing something requires precise attention, unlike casual observation. For me, that close observation verges on the feeling of empathy. It is the objectification of a person as I experience them, manifested through my experience of myself. When I draw I am exploring, at a basic physical level, what it is like to be in the world. I am interested in why it is so uncomfortable to sit still.
Where does one rest their weight, how does the world impress upon the body and contort it?
