First, I am interested in the skin and meat of the human body. Then, I’m thinking about the interplay of power and vulnerability that occurs in the absence of clothing. The naked body is a source of confrontation and exposure, attraction and repulsion, alienation and intimacy. I am thinking about these paintings as allegories for the clunkiness of our connectedness, but also as sites of unease, as we grapple with our impulses to impose narrative on an image without context.
