Art is a means of communication. Whether it says something about its creator, the state of the environment in which it was created, or one simple thought completely unrelated to its creation, art is a means of communication. When you think of archeology and ancient art, three dimensional objects often come to mind. The properties of materials such as metal, wood, and clay have given these artifacts a higher chance of survival. From these artifacts we are able to gather information about past occurrences.

Right now, for many Americans, one of the main focuses of our lives is the food we consume. Food is used as a means of nourishment but also as a way for people to feel control and comfort in their lives. Health problems related to disordered eating, unnatural food production practices, and the dieting industry have all become headline news. Right now, food is an obsession.

We obsess about food so much that it has come to be a bad thing. People have a love/hate relationship with food because many of us have the means to have so much of it that we do not know when to stop consuming it.

The objects that I have crafted are accessories for food and accessories for food accessories. These objects are useful but discourage use because they are frivolous. The silver and turquoise used speak of the abundance of food available to us and how we are able to mindlessly waste it. The chickens poke fun at our advanced society and how we are unable to properly satisfy one of the simplest human desires, to be nourished.

Perhaps adding insult to injury, these accessories add an extravagance to our indulgence.
