In my work I explore the idea of multiple, varied, and changing gender identities as opposed to the traditional masculine-feminine dichotomy. Masculinity and femininity are correlated to man and woman, respectively. This work represents the idea that masculinity and femininity aren’t mutually exclusive traits and that people can possess any kind of combination of the two at the same time. I have used women’s makeup as a symbolic continuum of gender identities to look at both the way that individuals self-identify and also the way that society identifies the individual.
