The Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC) will jointly host a day-long symposium for emerging art historians in the Twin Cities on April 13, 2013.
Each participating college/university is invited to select one undergraduate (plus a graduate student for those institutions with graduate art history programs) to present ongoing research that is related, in some way, to an artwork or collection of works in the permanent collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
Goals
- Support new research on artworks in the MIA’s collection by young art historians enrolled in area colleges
- Position the MIA as a learning resource, and as a hub for both intellectual and professional exchanges among faculty, students, museum staff, and museum visitors
Audience
The audience for the symposium will largely be an academic one; nonetheless we see cross-over appeal with our significant docent body and some members of the public.
Faculty Development Committee
William (Andy) Barnes, University of St. Thomas; Amy Hamlin, College of St. Catherine; Alison Kettering, Carleton College; Jennifer Marshall, UMN
