Alison Kettering, Editor-in-Chief of the refereed e-journal Historians of Netherlandish Art, has just published another issue of the journal, vol. 5:1. The issue includes articles on Memling, on a “needle painting” by the court embroiderer to Rudolf II, and on 17th-century Dutch maps of Brazil. This last is written by Carleton grad, Elizabeth Sutton ’03. It also contains the first installments of a long article published in the 1880s in the first issues of the journal Oud Holland; the article focuses on the militia company portraits that had been moved to what was then the brand new Rijksmuseum and it gives insight into how such portraits as Rembrandt’s Nightwatch were viewed. Several art history majors –Kate Wiener and Maggie Smythe — act as the journal’s assistants, uploading, formatting, and performing all sorts of other tasks vital to its operations.
