Assistant Professor of Art History, gave an invited lecture at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts on May 21 titled “From Optics to Objects: Painting from 1960 to Today.” This lecture charted painting’s progress from works of optical transcendence to objects of luxury and taste in the post-World War II era.

Professor of Art History, delivered the Weedon Lecture in Asian Art at the University of Virginia on October 21. The title of her lecture was “The Painter as Knight-Errant: Alternative Artistic Personas in the Late Ming Period (1550-1650).”

Kathleen Ryor, professor of Art History, was invited by the Department of Art and Art History at Oberlin College to give a lecture on her research in April. Her talk was entitled, “The Painter as Knight-Errant: Xu Wei and Alternative Artistic Personas in the Late Ming.”

Director of Exhibitions, delivered “Popular Paintings, Celebrity Artists: Back to the Future with the Victorians,” at the Delaware Art Museum. The lecture complemented the exhibition “Paintings from the Reign of Victoria: The Royal Holloway Collections, London.”

Visiting professor Melanie Michailidis presented a lecture in October at St. Olaf entitled “Empty Graves: The Tomb Towers of Northern Iran.” She presented the same lecture at UC-Davis later in October.

Alison gave a lecture on the Minneapolis Institute of Arts Dutch art collection to the museum’s docents on April 30, 2007.

On Nov 16, Alison Kettering gave a lecture on Rembrandt’s Group Portraits at the University of Minnesota for “Dutch-American Heritage Day.” The lecture was sponsored by the Netherlands American Association of Minnesota.
