These prints combine two areas of interest. First, they are landscapes based on the many drawings I have done while leading the South Pacific Art Seminar. I have spent long hours drawing in these places that I love, but I have not previously done any print work from these subjects. Second, I have recently been able to travel to see print collections in Europe.
One of the main things I wanted to study were the prints of Edvard Munch. I have been doing multiple versions of blocks and plates, experimenting with printing techniques, informed by my study of Munch’ practices. One series is based on landscapes from New Zealand, and the other is a series of small etchings from a site in Australia, Carnarvon Gorge.
