Health, Illness and Care Activism in Contemporary Art

Wed, May 12, 2021 • 4:00pm • Zoom — advance registration required

How are notions of the healthy and unhealthy body defined and by whom? How do systems of welfare and corporate care determine experiences of support and treatment? How might the chronically ill or disabled body imagine a political future for our wider social body?

Carleton’s Department of Art & Art History proudly presents a sponsored Christopher U. Light Lectureship

Join Pavel Pyś, Curator of Visual Arts at the Walker Art Center and Sara Cluggish, the Mary Hulings Rice Director and Curator of the Perlman Teaching Museum for a one-hour discussion of contemporary art and artists responding to heightened discourses surrounding health and illness, contamination and cleanliness, care and neglect.
