Art Speaks: Portraiture and Identity artist conversation with Leslie Barlow and Xavier Tavera

Sat, June 25, 2022 • 11:00am - 12:00pm (1h) • Minnesota History Center 345 W. Kellogg Blvd. St. Paul, MN 55102

The history of portraiture is an interesting one. Before the invention of photography, portraits were some of the only ways to capture a person’s likeness. When that changed, artists were able to experiment with different styles and techniques that expressed much more than a person's outside appearance.

Join Brian Szott, Manager of Curatorial Affairs, in a conversation with artists Leslie Barlow and Xavier Tavera. Explore the portraits in Art Speaks. What can we learn from these pieces? What stories do we have about the subjects?
