Marilyn Stokstad ’50, Professor Emeritus of Art History at the University of Kansas, has authored numerous books on medieval art in addition to the textbook Art History, used in Carleton introductory courses. After graduation, she studied in Oslo on a Fulbright. Her M.A. thesis, from Michigan State University, dealt with Norwegian mural painting from 1910 to 1950. Her Ph.D. thesis, from the University of Michigan, focused on the Pórtico de la Gloria of the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Her public service to the field of art history included the prestigious presidency of the College Art Association.
