Graduate studies in Archaeology in the United States are most often located in Anthropology, Art History, or Classics departments. There are, however, several programs that focus specifically on Archaeology, often with a strong interdisciplinary emphasis.
Independent Archaeology programs or departments are also common in the United Kingdom and across Europe. A few well known programs of particular interest are listed below, although several other excellent departments and institutes should also be considered, depending on student interests.
Students interested in going to Graduate School for Archaeology should arrange to meet with the Archaeology faculty as early as possible to talk about programs and the application process.
