Students work in the Arboretum year round, assisting with trail maintenance, habitat restoration, implementation of research projects and monitoring of rare or invasive species.

Student jobs include:

  • Arboretum Crew – trail maintenance, habitat restoration and management (academic year)
  • Restoration Technician – native plant seed collection, invasive species control, and ecological restoration of the Arb prairies and woodlands (full-time summer)
    • These positions are great experience for anyone interested in field work in the sciences or a natural resources career path.
    • All students will get chainsaw training and have the opportunity to get SAWW 1 and 2 certification.
  • Archiving Assistant – help develop the Arboretums digital archive, research Arb history
  • Research Assistant –
    • Term position includes data entry and compiling reports on research projects and literature research.
    • Summer position includes helping to implement research projects, data collection and report writing, inventory of plants and animals. You will learn how to identify a robust group of plants and how we collect data to understand how successful our restoration projects are.
  • Outreach Assistant – web site content writing and management, social media, publicity
  • Student Naturalist – interpretation of the Arb to others (campus community and beyond)
