Prescribed Burning Workshop
We host this workshop approximately every few years to familiarize participants with prescribed burning techniques in grasslands. This or similar training is required to participate on Arboretum burns.
We last hosted this workshop in spring of 2018, and hope to host again in the fall of 2021 or spring of 2022.
This workshop is designed for Arboretum volunteers and private landowners to learn the basics of prescribed burning in grassland situations. Participants learn about the role of fire in habitat management, learn basic prescribed burning methods, and apply some methods in the field to hone their skills. A morning classroom session is followed by an afternoon prescribed burn (weather permitting) in the field.
