Arboretum Volunteer Work Event

Sat, February 22, 2025 • 10:00am - 12:00pm (2h) • Meet at the bridge over Spring Creek along the paved trail.

Join us to remove invasive brush in the Upper Arboretum. Buckthorn, bush honeysuckle, burning bush and tree lilac all impact our forests by leafing out early and shading out our native spring wildflowers. We remove these invaders by cutting them low to the ground and carefully applying herbicide to just the cut stump. The weather in late February can still be “iffy”; we will cancel if under 10 degrees with wind chill or if raining. Please sign up so we can plan for equipment and can let you know if we have to cancel. If you can not join us for the whole event, you should feel free to come late or depart early. We will post signs so that you can find us if you come later during the work event.

Meet at the bridge over Spring Creek along the paved trail, just down from the Upper Arboretum entrance at the intersection of 2nd and Oak Streets, near the Carleton tennis courts. Dress for the weather; we will provide all needed supplies including insulated work gloves. Direct questions to Matt Elbert (melbert@carleton.edu).
