( Leonurus cardiaca ) Bloom Time: Summer (June – August) Location: prefers partial sun, and is not too discriminating when choosing a habitat. Found most often in disturbed broadleaf woodlands, but also in floodplains, edge habitat, thickets, wetlands, and herb gardens. Common throughout southern Minnesota (general). Common in disturbed sites, and often found in the floodplain forests (Arb). Family: Mint (Lamiaceae) INVASIVE Physical Description: the lavender blooms have no stalk, and are clustered about the stem. Upper lip extends out and is very hairy, while the lower lip of the bloom is a darker purple and curls up at the edges. Leaves have between 3-5 lobes and course teeth. Leaves shrink in size and teeth become less severe toward the top of the plant. Grows to a height of 2-4 feet. This plant is sometimes confused with garlic mustard ( Alliaria petiolata ), and while both are invasive (Eurasia), the latter is a far more aggressive invader.
