Black Cherry Flowers (Prunus serotine)
#13 of 18
Black cherries are a common part of the forest canopy throughout central and southeastern Minnesota. They are aromatic trees; both the bark and leaves give off a distinctive cherry-like scent when crushed. Flowers grow in clusters and are white with orange centers and yellow-tipped stamens. They bloom from May to June and are pollinated by many insects, such as flies, beetles, and bees. In the Arboretum, look for black cherries in the upland forests.
