Eastern Red Cedar Flowers (Juniperus virginiana)
#6 of 18
Eastern red cedars are small to mid-sized evergreens, well-known for their bluish summer berries. While both male and female flowers are tiny cones, male cones are yellow-brown and egg-shaped, while female cones consist of tiny green scales. Cedar cones are wind-pollinated in April-May. In the Arboretum, look for red cedars in open areas and successional forests. Some red cedars can be found south of Best Woods.
