On the wing late June through mid-August

Interestingly, it is the smallest species of its genus, but has the largest club appendage. The abdomen is mostly black with small yellow spots at the beginning of each segment. There are large yellow side spots on the clubtail. Legs are black with yellow on the hind thighs. Eyes of both sexes are dark green. Thoracic stripes are quite distinctive: a yellow triangle/three pointed star surrounded by two yellow stripes on black. 3-4 thick yellow side stripes. Wings are clear. Eyes disconnected, yellow bridge.

Its feeding occurs mostly during the day, and this species is known to be more solitary than others, preferring to feed over open water. Bolder than other clubtails.
