Buckthorn Lining a Path in the Arboretum

This invasive, non-native species was brought to the United States was brought over from Europe during the 19th century to be used as an ornamental shrub. It forms a thick undergrowth in forests and crowds out the native plants, this makes it a target of active control in the Arboretum.
