Welcome to the Arabic program at Carleton!
The Arabic program at Carleton offers language study at all levels and invites students to explore Arabic language, literature, and culture in a supportive, close-knit community. Our courses are designed to help you build strong skills in Modern Standard Arabic – the language of educated speech, media, and much of the religious and intellectual tradition of Islam – while engaging deeply with texts and media from across the Arab world.
Beginning with the alphabet and your first sentences in Modern Standard Arabic, you quickly move to reading news, short stories, and other authentic materials, taking part in classroom conversations, and listening to Arabic media. In addition to the language sequence, we offer courses on Arabic literature, music, and culture, taught both in English and in Arabic.
