Deborah Appleman, Hollis L. Caswell Professor of Educational Studies, wrote a book chapter, “What We Talk About When We Talk About Literary Theory,” in a volume just published by the National Council of Teachers of English titled, Building Literate Communities. Appleman also gave two talks at University of California–Irvine, focusing on her recent work on culture wars as well as critical race theory in secondary literature classes.
