Regenerating the Heart
with Ken Poss ’92

Thursday, November 10, 2022

Ken Poss ’92 is a James B. Duke Professor of Regenerative Biology and Director of the Duke Regeneration Center at Duke University, and he is the founding president of the International Society for Regenerative Biology.  He received his B.A. in biology from Carleton in 1992, and his Ph.D. in biology from MIT in 1998. After performing postdoctoral research in Salt Lake City and Boston, he initiated his research program at Duke in 2003 to investigate models of tissue regeneration using laboratory zebrafish.  Among his honors, Poss received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Carleton Alumni Association in 2017.  Ken will talk about the spectrum of abilities of our various tissues to regenerate after damage or disease, and how his research in zebrafish over the past 20 years has established new concepts for stimulating the regenerative capacity of our hearts after an event like a heart attack.
