2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the Gender & Sexuality Center at Carleton. The national conversation around gender identity and sexuality has evolved over the past two decades with deep effects on and implications for LGBTQIA+ communities at Carleton and beyond. As the Gender & Sexuality Center celebrates its 20th anniversary on campus, its newly clarified mission, vision, and guiding principles have shifted to center the needs of LGBTQIA+ students and their unique journey at Carleton. Danny Mathews joined the Carleton community as the third director of the Gender & Sexuality Center in 2018 and is excited to help usher in a new era of community building and liberation work in the GSC – continuing to build on the rich history and momentum of LGBTQIA+ Carls of years past. Join Danny as they review the history and evolution of the Center and share how professional and student staff are exploring what it means to have a more visible and active queer community on campus.

Prior to joining the Carleton community, Danny served LGBTQIA+ communities at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Illinois State University, and Virginia Tech. He has also collaborated with local community agencies like The American Red Cross, Planned Parenthood, and AIDS Foundation Chicago.
